Be it known to all who enter here that CHRIST is the reason for this school.

He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes.  He is the model of its faculty and the     inspiration of its students

Back to School - August Newsletter:

Dear Families,

I hope God has blessed all of you this summer with the joy and contentedness that comes with the togetherness of summertime spent with family.

Building Update

It has been quite a summer around here at St. Philip’s, and the summer is not done yet!  We have done a considerable amount of work to the physical plant and are now starting to put the finishing touches on all of the projects.  Behind us now is the asbestos abatement.  Like most schools built around the same time period as St. Philip’s, asbestos was a commonly used material.  While it was here in the physical plant it caused no harm, but nonetheless, we took this summer as an opportunity to abate that material.  The work of the abatement contractors was closely monitored by us here at St. Philip’s to make absolutely certain that work was carried out and completed in the safest manner possible following all governmental  guidelines.  We are happy to say that the work turned out well.

In the next week or so we will be finishing up with other projects around the school which include in some areas new ceiling tiles, new carpeting, new lighting, and even a new bathroom in the preschool.  The gym floor has been newly re-coated and soon will have new lines and logos.

I want to thank everyone for their patience as we continue to work diligently to improve St. Philip’s physical plant.

Office Open

While we are continuing with the projects to the school, the school office is now open.  You can find Mrs. Cesaroni and I in the office from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (or later) over the next couple of weeks as we get ready for the new school year.  The phones and internet are up and running, so feel free to stop in, give us a call or send an e-mail.

Back-to-School Paperwork

The back-to-school paperwork can be accessed through the St. Philip’s school website.  Please look over the list of documents carefully.  Mrs. Cesaroni is already processing the forms.  So please feel free to add to the stack in the next week.  As parents have been turning in their paperwork I have received some good feedback about having the materials on-line.  It is the first time we have done this so your feedback is greatly appreciated.  We already have a few suggestions that will help to make it even more user-friendly for next summer.

Save the Date

There are a few things to add to your calendar.   The school’s Open House will take place Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00 pm.  Also, please note that September 17 will be a regular full day of school, while September 24 will be a half-day with an 11:00 am dismissal.  This represents a switch from the original school calendar.

Protecting God’s Children and Background Checks

New families to St. Philip’s will want to reference the information about the Virtus Protecting God’s Children Program.  Only parents who have completed this program and have agreed to a background check are permitted to volunteer in any capacity in our school.   Once you have completed the two hour workshop it is not required again.  We continue to desire the safest environment possible for our St.  Philip’s children.  You may get more information and sign-up for the program through the Diocese of Joliet website at dioceseofjoliet.org.  Go to the website and click on the ‘Virtus’ link.  You will be glad you did.

Thank You

I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to all the members of the St. Philip the Apostle family including students, parents, school and parish staff members, parishioners and, of course, Father Mark, Mrs. Sedlak and Mrs. Cesaroni for making the transition to St. Philip’s so wonderful.  I look forward to a great school year and continue to count my blessings knowing that God has chosen to put me in such a wonderful place.

God’s love to you all,

Mr. Robert Reisenbuechler
