Mrs. Tricia Nelson - Teacher

Take a look at what's going on:

  •   Religion: "Honoring God"  We have talked about the many ways we show honor and respect to God.  The first three commandments remind us how to act toward, think about, and worship God.  Please check out the Family Faith page that has some ideas for home.

  • Child reading a book.Reading:  We have finished reading Stealing Home  , a story about how a young boy's life changes when his aunt comes to stay at with him and his grandfather.  As the aunt's visit stretches on, Thomas learns that the wisest way of dealing with changes may be having the willingness to adapt.

  •   Math:  We should be reviewing our multiplication facts through 12.  Knowing these really well helps us to know the related division facts.  We really enjoy playing Multiplication and Division Bingo. . . We're having fun and learning at the same time!!  In the coming chapter, we will be using multiplication patterns to multiply 2-, 3- and 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.

  • Meet The Speakers  English:  We have published another classbook, HappyThanksgiving, full of Pilgrim facts, family feasts, and turkey "tales".  Our latest accomplishment in our writer's workshop are our 5-paragraph, persuasive essays entitled, The Best Christmas Gift Ever!

  • Science:  "Why does MATTER matter??" We have been learning all about Matter.  We have been investigating physical and chemical changes in matter.  We identified the many examples of physical and chemical changes in school, at our homes, and found in nature.  We created our own change in matter when we turned Room 1 into an ice cream parlour.

  • Was this experiment an example of a physical or chemical change?

  •   Social Studies:  Continuing our cross-country trek, we travel to the Southeast, stopping in colonial Jamestown, meeting Thomas Jefferson as he writes the Declaration of Indepence, following Harriet Tubman to freedom on the Underground Railroad , and fighting against slavery with Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War .
