Classroom Happenings! What a beautiful First Communion the 2nd graders had on May 1! The 2nd graders did a wonderful job preparing to receive the gift of Jesus. They were very excited to be able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist with their family and friends there to watch. May they always remember the precious gift of the Eucharist and receive Him often! The 2nd graders celebrated Earth Day! We learned about the importance of making good decisions about how we treat the Earth. Each 2nd grader also wrote an Earth Day pledge. They each pledged to do various things like to recycle, not litter, reuse things, turn off lights, and many more "green" ideas! We also walked around the school grounds and picked up garbage. We were surprised to find so much garbage! We hope it stays litter free! The 2nd graders had a wonderful time at our Meet and Greet Jesus Retreat. It was a very busy day of activities that celebrate our upcoming First Communion. We began our day with Mass and enjoyed donuts and juice afterwards. Some other activities were talking with Jesus on the phone, playing First Communion Bingo, decorating a Rice Krispie treat, taking a tour of the church with Fr. Mark, making our banners, and a treasure hunt! It was a great day and we can't wait to receive Jesus in our hearts! The 2nd graders celebrated Holy Week with many special activities. The first was our Bread Breaking celebration. As we prepare for our First Communion, we remember the first time Jesus broke bread with his followers. Each student brought in a special loaf of bread to share and spoke about what made their bread special. The 2nd graders are very excited about receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus! In Social Studies we have been learning about the states and continents. Each student was given a state to research. They found out the state bird, tree, capital, and other interesting facts. The 2nd graders also colored their state's flag and created a poster for their state. Lastly, each student read their report to the class and answered questions by their classmates. They did a great job! Happy St. Patrick's Day! The 2nd graders were "tickled green" to celebrate this holiday. We spoke about how our last names can often reveal what nationality we are. Many Irish last names begin with O' or Mc, so we all changed our last names to sound a little more Irish. The 2nd graders also received Lucky Charms cereal to graph for Math. They sorted the marshmallow shapes into groups and then they graphed the number of each shape on a bar graph. Best of all, they got to eat the Lucky Charms when they were finished! Check out the picture of them wearing their green derby hats!
