Autumn begins this week,
signaling a change in the weather for us here in Addison. The days are
getting shorter, our evenings are cool, the leaves are changing, and we are
beginning to gear up for the coming winter. This is also a time for us to
reflect upon our lives and to see what things we may want to do differently
or change. The last time we pondered like this was probably on New Year’s
Eve—and do you even remember those resolutions you made for the new year?
Have you fulfilled them, or do you need a little reminder? As we prepare for
the seasons of fall and winter, let us remember that we can still make those
changes so our lives will become more like that of our Lord Jesus Christ.
With the election coming soon, it is my hope that we all are taking time to
study the candidates and their positions. Beginning next week, I will post
some informational Internet sites as well as printed material designed to
help us as Catholics decide which candidates we will be voting for in the
general election. Also, next weekend is Respect Life Sunday. Please consider
bringing some baby items to donate for the Baby Shower playpen in the church
lobby. Your support of these types of pro-life activities reinforces the
perception that we as Catholics respect life in all its forms from
conception to natural death.
I know you will all give a warm St. Philip’s welcome to Fr. Antonio who will
be spending three weeks with us. God’s blessings to him as he enjoys the
hospitality of our community and parish.
Please remember to keep the date of November 1 free for an evening of wine
tasting here in the parish. The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring this
evening for us, so please join us as we sample some wine and enjoy the
community of St. Philip the Apostle. Have a great week and Remember to Bring
a Friend to Christ.
